2007 De Lisio Quarterback

The wine is a blend of 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 26% Shiraz, and 17% Grenache aged for 15 months in seasoned French oak. Its opaque purple color is accompanied by juicy aromas of roasted coffee, chocolate, berries, and toasty oak, supple tannin, large, corpulent flavors, and well-integrated acidity.

2004 Burge Family D & Oh Grenache/Shiraz

The 2004 D & OH, a blend of 75% Shiraz, 21% Grenache, and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, reveals Mediterranean/Provencal-like characteristics of roasted herbs, pepper, garrigue, and sweet strawberries and cherries. Medium-bodied, more powerful but not as complete and beautifully textured as the Clochemerle, it should be drunk over the next 5-6 years.

2004 Burge Family Olive Hill Grenache/Shiraz

The proprietary blend of 50% Shiraz, 34% Grenache, and 16%Mourvedre, the 2003 Olive Hill is a deep ruby/purple-tinged offering with a sweet perfume of raspberries, cherries, plums, Allspice, new saddle leather, and toasty oak. Super-ripe, concentrated, and strikingly elegant with marvelous equilibrium, it can be drunk now or cellared for 6-8 years.

Shiraz-Viognier blends have become quite the ticket in recent years (what to do with all that so-so Viognier) but one of the first and still one of the best is the Laughing Magpie. The opaque purple-colored 2007 The Laughing Magpie Shiraz (90%)-Viognier (10%) offers up an expressive bouquet of smoke, mineral, violets, and wild blueberry. Medium-to full-bodied on the palate, it has tons of ripe blue fruits, spice notes, and enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years. This lengthy, pleasure-bent effort will be at its best from 2010 to 2020.

Taltarni Sparkling Brut Tache

Tache is a French word meaning ‘stained’, referring to the pale salmon color of this enticing sparkling wine. The Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes are estate grown at Taltarni and Clover Hill, Tasmania. The Non-Vintage Brut Tache is a delightful, well-priced sparkling wine composed of 52% Chardonnay, 41% Pinot Noir, and 7% Pinot Meunier. A dash of red wine liqueur is added to the finished triage wine at disgorgement to create the salmon pink color. The nose offers rose petal, peach, apricot, and wheat thin scents leading to a sparkler with a steady, persistent stream of small bubbles and red berry and nutty flavors. On the palate the wine is dry and refreshing, with a long, clean finish.

The Banrock Station Moscato displays lifted Muscat-style aromatics, with subtle hints of fresh grapefruit and lemon. On the palate, delicate passion fruit and fresh pineapple flavours with sweet characteristics are present. The gentle spritz gives the wine an appealing lift and refreshing finish. Pair with Italian Cannoli with Mascarpone.
